Why UPF 50+?
What UPF 50+ actually means
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor — the fabric equivalent of SPF for sunscreen. It measures how much of the sun's UV radiation a fabric stops from reaching your skin.
A UPF 50+ rating means the fabric lets through just 1/50th of UV rays — blocking 98% of both UVA and UVB. It is the highest band awarded, and unlike sunscreen it never sweats off, rubs off, or needs reapplying.
How it is tested
UPF is measured in a lab by passing UV light through the fabric and recording how much gets through across the full UVA and UVB spectrum. Ratings fall into bands — UPF 15–24 (Good), 25–39 (Very Good), and 40–50+ (Excellent). Every DAYCOVER piece is rated UPF 50+, the Excellent tier.
Why it matters
- All-day protection — no reapplying, no missed spots.
- Covers the skin sunscreen forgets — forearms, neck, ears and shoulders.
- Built into the fabric, not a chemical coating — the protection is woven in and lasts wash after wash.
Pair a UPF 50+ layer with sunscreen on any still-exposed skin for complete coverage, wherever the sun finds you.
